Cave of Hazrat Dauda (Saint David) – a sacred place located 40 km from Samarkand at the foot of the mountains on a rocky slope. According to a legend, the Jewish king and prophet David, hiding from enemies, reached these places. Surrounded by his enemies, he decided to pray and knelt down. The prayer was heard by Allah, and David was endowed with supernatural power. He spread the rock with his hands and fled into the cave. At its entrance you can see the traces of giant knees and the prints of huge fingers. Many ladles and visitors come here to heal from diseases or to fulfill desires from the traces of the prophet.
At the very bottom before the ascent there are many guest houses, grocery stores and tourist shops. Along the slope there are rest benches to rest on the road, as the route will take quite a while (1,303 steps)
