Overview

Cave of Hazrat Dauda (Saint David) – a sacred place located 40 km from Samarkand at the foot of the mountains on a rocky slope. According to a legend, the Jewish king and prophet David, hiding from enemies, reached these places. Surrounded by his enemies, he decided to pray and knelt down. The prayer was heard by Allah, and David was endowed with supernatural power. He spread the rock with his hands and fled into the cave. At its entrance you can see the traces of giant knees and the prints of huge fingers. Many ladles and visitors come here to heal from diseases or to fulfill desires from the traces of the prophet.

At the very bottom before the ascent there are many guest houses, grocery stores and tourist shops. Along the slope there are rest benches to rest on the road, as the route will take quite a while (1,303 steps)

What you will visit

At 09:00 our guide and driver will meet you in your hotel in Samarkand. It will take about an hour to get to the foot of the mountain. The cave is located at the height of 1,250 meters, so it is better to use horses or donkeys, which will be offered to you before climbing. After a half an hour walk, you will find yourself near the mosque and the observation deck, where you will have an impressive view of the Samarkand valley. After you will walk down 200 stairs to the cave itself. Visit and walk through the cave to the traces of palms and knees of the Prophet. Then you will go down to the foot. And return to Samarkand.
